Saiyans are a race of extraterrestrial beings and are a naturally aggressive warrior race.

 In Ansem's Universe, much like Universe 7, his people were slaves to a powerful, evil tyrant who were forced to conquer worlds, to be sold to the highest bidder in the planetary trade. Lord Ansem freed himself and his people, but at his own cost. He managed to turn into a Super Saiyan, a powerful being of legend, that was long thought to be a myth by its people. It nearly consumed him and destroyed the world and all of her people in the process. 

Lord Ansem had a wife and a family on his homeworld but lost them due to the planet explosion. He managed to escape, but it nearly cost him his own life. Through time and healing, he managed to end up on Earth, in a whole other Universe where there were other fellow Saiyan warriors. Lord Ansem was different from his people, brilliant in the world of science. He helped create an artificial full-moon, a technique essential for the transformation of their Great Ape form. Which is a form vastly more powerful than their normal form. 

His homeworld is known as Planet Sadala, The planet has a natural gravity that is 15 times stronger than Earth's. This gives Saiyans a greater, natural ability and power than most races. They were quickly becoming the dominant species of their Universe in strength and number until a tyrant ruler wiped them all out leaving Lord Ansem alone and lost as the last of his kind. 

Lord Ansem is a hard man to know and an even harder one to love. Having been tortured and enslaved his entire life up to adulthood, he has grown a harder exterior shell, both emotionally and physically in a sense. He thinks about nothing but training and becoming the strongest warrior, leaving little else in his life. He is a pure-blood Saiyan, which means he lusts for battle and destruction but fights his urges often because he is a peaceful entity and keeper of the peace. While his other brothers and sisters were of more savage nature, he was not, but still of a darker mind and spirit. More an Anti-hero. 

He comes off as a cold, uncaring man. He is often away from his family and friends, Saiyans don't get closely attached to their offspring or kin. They view it as a weakness and tend to stay away from them. With exceptions. Lord Ansem forged a family of his own until the planet he was apart of and trying to save managed to get destroyed. In his battle against the tyrant, the tyrant managed to get the last word, and ended his entire race, leaving him alone while the ruler passed on. 

Saiyans focus their energy in to Chi, all beings have this, but Saiyans are more adept in handling and controlling it. That's why they are able to transform into higher states of power and channel their power into something combative and useful. This can range anywhere from flight to self-healing, destructive energy blasts that can wipe out entire cities and planets, to any number of things, depending on how it's used and handled. 

The more focused they are, the more powerful their fighting spirit becomes. Their skin is very dense and their blood allows them to get stronger after each battle. The more intense the battle, the stronger they become after they heal. 

A baby Saiyan's power level is measured as soon as they are born. If their power level is up to standard, then they are raised as upper-level warriors and become combatant candidates.   If their power level remains low even after a certain amount of time passes, then they are classified as a low-level warrior. Ansem was a high-class warrior from birth and has been raised in the art of combat since infancy. 

Highly toned and skilled, sharp-edged is his ability to see an outcome and analyze it. After reading his opponent's move-set, he is able to counter easily, and from fighting with someone for a few moments, he's able to nearly predict their movements. 

If a Saiyan's power level remains low, they become engineers or infiltration babies. Infiltration babies are sent off to a planet where the Saiyans have selected for a takeover, and if the baby grows up into a warrior capable of taking over the planet, they are allowed to return as full-fledged combatant warriors. Infiltration babies have a low survival rate.

 Saiyans do not naturally know how to fly, even when they know how to channel their energy, a flying Saiyan is rare. Lord Ansem was taught flight along with his other skills from his former mentor, who died in the planetary wars for freedom. Training to increase your power level is also uncommon, and only a few know how to handle the knowledge of it, among the gifted as well. 

Saiyans do not celebrate any holidays, and instead of playing together like Earth-children, they fight amongst themselves. Pride helps fuel the power of a Saiyan, battle-strength. A pure-blood Saiyan can channel his blood-heritage energy to raise his power spirit and grow into a higher being of power. Pure-blooded Saiyans have tails, half-Saiyans do as well. These tails help transform them into a larger Great Ape form that is the epi-center of their power. Lord Ansem's tail was removed as he no longer needed it, or enjoyed the savage nature the Great Ape Beast Transformation yielded. 

Saiyans are outwardly very similar to Human-type Earthlings, with the exception of their monkey-like tails. Very muscular and well-toned, athletically built into fighting shape. A hair of a pure-blooded Saiyan does not deviate from its appearance since the day the Saiyan is born. 

Saiyan adults are resistant to extreme temperatures, far more so than humans.

 They can survive some low-levels past an atmosphere of a planet, and in extreme cases of cold, as well as being able to hold their breaths for long periods of time underwater. Saiyans tend to share common personality traits. Most are aggressively militant and share an innate enjoyment of conflict and fighting. Choosing violence over peace. 

Saiyans are arrogant, leading them to allow their enemies to gain advantages in battle just for fun, and are short-tempered. Saiyans do not have a notion much for romance or marriage and often use sex to breed future warriors and retain their strong blood-lines. Some instances are rare, but most relationships formed are open and are not of the traditional Earth-Bound marriages one would see. 

Saiyans lack sympathetic emotions as though by choice, rather than by nature, and have a lack of fear, and often come off as cold individuals. Saiyans value honor for their race above anything else and seemed to have been not only opposed to mating with other races but refused to produce half-breed offspring. Some cases are rare and even then, they have a hard time bonding with their offspring.

 Many are not present at their birth or when they are sent out to space as babies. Saiyans possess a keen fighting sense and understanding of battle, which allows them to acquire new skills, and powers, such as overcoming the weakness of their tails and needing to transform into the Great Ape form. Sensing energy and other powers among beings, and achieving new fighting forms and transformations. 

The trait that sets almost all pure-blooded Saiyans apart is their innate lust for battle. This trait seems to be maintained through all Sayains. Lord Ansem fights this trait often, it's like being addicted and he struggles with it all the time. Leaving himself colder and more withdrawn than most at times. 

Hybrid

Due to their similar physiology, Saiyans and Earthlings are capable of interbreeding. While this was always possible, it became necessary for the survival of the Saiyan race when all the female Saiyans were exterminated. The resulting offspring generally possess the same enhanced strengths of the Saiyans, developing their abilities far more easily than Earthlings, but lack the same drive and instinct for combat.  

Hybrid Saiyans, due to genetic reasons, can be born without a tail.. Hybrid Saiyans possess a greater potential to become Super Saiyans than pure-blood Saiyans, but it is unclear how many generations removed from their Saiyan ancestor a hybrid can be before the transformation becomes unavailable to them. .

A hybrid Saiyan's potential may be held in check by the fact they lack the same desire for combat as pure Saiyans and thus tend not to train as much, in times of peace, as a pure Saiyan would. 

Aging, lifespan, and growth

Saiyan's lifespan is about the same as an average Earthling (75 to 100 years, with longer exceptions), but keep in their peak health, performance, and appearance much longer. Their natural lifespan itself is longer than humans', but as a warrior race, many of them die in battle, and by extension their general lifespan. Saiyans are still young at the age of 80. Saiyans maintain their prime they evolved into a natural warrior race, enabling them to fight longer In terms of physical development, this differs by Saiyan as it does with Earthlings. 

Most full-blooded Saiyans appear to grow in spurt phases.. Saiyans appear identical to that of an Earthling baby in their early years, although they are born with a full head of hair more often than Earthlings, but also appear to grow at somewhat slower rates.

 

Saiyans appear to undergo one final growth spurt between the ages of roughly 20 to 30, when the body seems to finalize its physical maturity. Growth in muscle mass can clearly be seen, with even some height gained.

S-Cells

Saiyans possess S-Cells within their bodies, S-Cells are what allows a Saiyan to become a Super Saiyan, however, most Saiyans do not have many S-Cells within their bodies. Any Saiyan can become a Super Saiyan, however, they require a large amount of S-Cells in order to take on the form, Saiyans who have a gentle spirit gain more S-Cells (though they cannot gain enough to go Super Saiyan through a gentle nature alone) and when a Saiyan increases their battle power they steadily gain more S-Cells. 

Additionally, a gentler environment that is easier to live in (such as Planet Earth and their native home planet Sadala compared to Planet Vegeta) makes S-Cell production increase. Once the Saiyan has enough S-Cells, a feeling such as strong anger or sadness can transform a Saiyan into a Super Saiyan, once a Saiyan has achieved the form they can transform into it any time by focusing their energy into their back to make it tingle. 

A Saiyan who has a very large battle power can turn Super Saiyan without needing a trigger, due to their tremendous amount of S-Cells. Saiyan offspring will inherit S-Cells from their parents..

Senses

 Saiyans have a very keen sense of smell. Saiyans also have a powerful sense of touch and hearing. They are very alert to vibrations through the ground and shift in the air, enabling them to instinctively react to incoming danger from these subtle signals. This allows them to easily fight their opponents in absolute dark or even blinded Saiyans also have keen eyesight.

 They can also sense strong energy near them, and can see-through disguises and transformations. Meaning if you aren't human, they can tell. 

Transformations

Their tail also grants a Saiyan special transformations; a great metamorphosis into a giant ape beast with tremendous power when looking at a full moon. The Saiyan grows incredibly in size and tenfold in strength while drastically changing in appearance. If the tail is removed, this ability is lost. 

In this state, a Saiyan will generally lose most if not all control of themselves, with aggressiveness reaching its peak, causing them to lose all rationality to primal instinct. Which is why Lord Ansem had his tail removed, he evolved in power, in which he did not require that transformation any longer as it was more of a hindrance to his fighting than help. 

Though normally a tail is required to access the transformation, it is possible for Saiyans to transform even if their tail is removed, Lord Ansem is among the few who can transform at will into a Large Ape, however, it takes a lot out of him, and again is a pointless transformation. 

Super Saiyan

Lord Ansem is the first of his Universe and Only to transform into this state. 

The most powerful ability of a normal Saiyan, however, is the ability to drastically augment their speed, strength, and energy by transforming into a Super Saiyan. The ability is rare and difficult to achieve normally but gives the Saiyan unbelievable enhancements to their normal abilities.

 Saiyans possess several Super Saiyan transformations, each different in appearance and the power they provide. For the majority of the Super Saiyan forms, the Saiyans muscle mass increases slightly, their irises turn bluish-green and their hair turns golden in color. There are additional transformations beyond Super Saiyan, and variations thereon.

There are several forms of Super Saiyan, most notably the Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 forms.

Super Saiyan God

Through several different methods, a Saiyan can ascend to godhood and achieve the Super Saiyan God form, the most notable being a sacred ritual involving the transfer of ki from five righteous Saiyans to a sixth Saiyan as host. Attaining these forms is quite difficult and only three Saiyans are known to have ever accomplished it - with only two retaining the power. These forms possess Godly ki. 

Retaining the godly power also causes the user's normal forms to become more powerful than before, and also gifts them with the God-like Saiyan form, a form which utilizes the power of Super Saiyan God without a physical change in appearance. A Saiyan can also transform into a Super Saiyan God at will if they retain the godly power.

A Saiyan with the power of Super Saiyan God who transforms into a Super Saiyan becomes a Super Saiyan Blue.

Hybrid forms

Saiyans are capable of mixing their Super Saiyan forms with their other non-Super Saiyan states in order to achieve powerful hybrid states. This has shown to be possible by mixing the standard Super Saiyan form with either Great Ape or Super Saiyan God.

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan

A Saiyan with the power of Super Saiyan God transforming into a Super Saiyan results in Super Saiyan Blue..Once a Saiyan masters the divine power of Super Saiyan God, by transforming from a Saiyan with the power of Super Saiyan God into the Super Saiyan form, they can access a new more powerful transformation called Super Saiyan Blue, more descriptively known as "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan".

When a Saiyan breaks through their normal limits, they can achieve the power beyond Super Saiyan Blue. A Saiyan who possesses an actual status as a deity takes on the Super Saiyan Rosé form instead of the ordinary Super Saiyan Blue.

Golden Great Ape

Despite its name, Super Saiyan 4 does not follow the same transformation line as the other forms..By combining Great Ape and Super Saiyan, a Saiyan becomes a Golden Great Ape. Their offensive capacities have become much greater, and their rage is even more intense than the standard Great Ape's. While in the Golden Great Ape state, the power and strength of a Saiyan increase extraordinarily.

The Super Saiyan 4 form is a unique transformation attained through control of the Golden Great Ape form. 

Despite being called a "Super Saiyan" it is not part of the main Super Saiyan line of transformations.By achieving a power beyond their limits in Super Saiyan 4 form, a Saiyan will be enhanced further into an Ultra-full-power Saiyan 4.While evil ancient Saiyans have been shown capable of taking on the Golden Great Ape form, they have not displayed the ability to become Super Saiyan 4 after gaining control over their Golden Great Ape form.

Fighting

Saiyans have an inborn need to fight. Most Saiyans will spend their lives training to become stronger so that they can prove themselves in battle.

Many of the Saiyan and Saiyan/Human hybrids possess extreme fighting potential. It is also very common for them to develop the ability to transform into Super Saiyans at childhood, thought to be particularly likely when the hybrid's Saiyan parent had achieved the transformation prior to conception.

A Saiyan who achieves a level of power at the level of gods becomes a "God-like Saiyan".

Healing

Having become a natural-born race of warriors, Saiyans are shown to be very resilient and adaptive. As they continue battling, their minds and bodies continue to adapt and improve from the experience. To which, they instinctively learn from their mistakes and become more accustomed to the adversity before him. 

Even more, Saiyans are shown able to recover from injuries much faster than humans. Also as their bodies recover and adapt from the injuries, their bodies will grow considerably stronger than before, a literal example of the saying "That which does not kill me only makes me stronger". This power increase is known as Saiyan Power.
